Yemeni Ambassador Salem Balfakeeh, Nahdlatul Ulama Chief Discuss Education, Culture

His Excellency Ambassador Salem Ahmed Balfakeeh met on Thursday, 9 July 2026, with Sheikh Yahya Cholil Staquf, also known as Gus Yahya, Chairman of the Executive Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU), at the organisation’s headquarters in Jakarta. The two sides discussed ways to strengthen cooperation in the fields of education and culture, contributing to the further development of the historic relations between Yemen and Indonesia. They also highlighted the significance of Nahdlatul Ulama as Indonesia’s largest Islamic organisation and one of the largest Islamic organisations in the world. The two sides also reviewed the latest developments in Yemen and their implications for efforts to achieve peace and stability in Yemen and the wider region. They emphasised the importance of maintaining communication and cooperation in a manner that serves bilateral relations between the two friendly countries. The meeting was attended by Counsellor Nasser Saeed Ibrahim and a number of senior officials from Nahdlatul Ulama.
