Yemen and Indonesia Sign Memorandum of Understanding to Strengthen Cooperation on Halal Product Assurance

His Excellency Ambassador Salem Ahmed Balfakeeh inaugurated a new phase of economic cooperation between the two countries on Thursday, 30 July 2026, through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of the Republic of Yemen and the Government of the Republic of Indonesia, represented by the Halal Product Assurance Agency, with the Agency’s Chairman, Dr Ahmad Haikal Hassan. The Memorandum of Understanding aims to facilitate the certification and entry of Yemeni products into the Indonesian market and to open broader prospects for trade and investment between the two countries. Ambassador Balfakeeh affirmed that the Memorandum reflects the depth of the fraternal relations between Yemen and Indonesia and demonstrates the commitment of both countries to expanding economic and trade cooperation. He also expressed his hope that it would mark the beginning of a broader partnership in areas of mutual interest. The signing ceremony was attended virtually by Mr Mohammed Salem Salman, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade, along with representatives of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the General Federation of Yemeni Chambers of Commerce and Industry, and chambers of commerce in Hadramout Governorate. Also in attendance were a representative of the Middle East Directorate at the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Ambassador Mohammed Johan Erzan, former Indonesian Ambassador to the Republic of Yemen and the Sultanate of Oman; Mr Mohammed Bawazir, representative of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry; and a number of officials, businesspeople and media representatives.
