His Excellency Ambassador Salem Ahmed Balfakeeh, Ambassador of the Republic of Yemen to the Republic of Indonesia, met on Wednesday, 15 July 2026, with His Excellency Dr Anis Matta, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Jakarta. During the meeting, Ambassador Balfakeeh reviewed the latest developments in Yemen, particularly the recent Iranian escalation involving the operation of flights between Tehran and Sana’a International Airport without prior authorisation from the Yemeni government. He also highlighted the facilities and solutions offered by the Yemeni government to enable flights through Sana’a Airport in accordance with the approved legal procedures. The Ambassador affirmed that such actions constitute a clear violation of the sovereignty of the Republic of Yemen and contravene international law, the Charter of the United Nations and the relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions. He added that these actions undermine peace efforts and threaten the security and stability of Yemen and the wider region. Ambassador Balfakeeh reiterated the Yemeni government’s firm position on safeguarding the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the state, protecting its institutions and legal status, and rejecting any external interference that undermines its legitimate institutions or violates the principles of international law. At the same time, he reaffirmed the government’s commitment to achieving a just and comprehensive peace and its support for all regional and international efforts aimed at ending the conflict and restoring security and stability. For his part, Indonesia’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs expressed his country’s interest in following developments in Yemen and affirmed its support for efforts aimed at achieving peace and stability. He also stressed the importance of dialogue and peaceful means in addressing the crisis. The meeting also addressed a number of regional and international issues of mutual interest and discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations between the Republic of Yemen and the Republic of Indonesia. The two sides explored opportunities to expand cooperation and coordination in a manner that serves the interests of both friendly countries. Both sides emphasised the importance of continuing consultations and exchanging views on issues of mutual interest.
