Ambassador Salem Ahmed Balfakeeh held talks in Jakarta with Indonesia’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Anis Matta, on ways to strengthen and further develop cooperation between the two countries. During the meeting, the two sides reviewed bilateral cooperation and discussed ways to enhance and expand it. They also discussed the latest political and economic developments in Yemen, as well as the reform and recovery plan adopted by the government to fulfil the aspirations of the Yemeni people and alleviate the humanitarian suffering caused by the Iran-backed terrorist Houthi militias. The two sides also discussed activating the Joint Committee for Economic and Trade Cooperation and the possibility of establishing a political consultation committee between the foreign ministries of the two countries. They further emphasised the importance of opening an Indonesian consular office in Yemen’s interim capital, Aden, as a step towards resuming the Embassy’s operations from the city. Ambassador Balfakeeh expressed his appreciation for Indonesia’s consistent support for the Yemeni government and constitutional legitimacy, represented by the Presidential Leadership Council, as well as for its efforts to promote peace in Yemen. He also reaffirmed the Yemeni government’s commitment to developing bilateral relations, which are founded on a shared historical legacy and deep religious, cultural and humanitarian ties. For his part, Deputy Minister Anis Matta expressed his support for efforts to strengthen cooperation between the two countries in various fields and his optimism regarding the Ambassador’s plans to advance bilateral relations towards broader levels of partnership and cooperation.
