His Excellency Ambassador Salem Ahmed Balfakeeh met today, Monday, August 10, 2026, with Indonesian Deputy Foreign Minister Dr. Muhammad Anis Matta to discuss the latest developments in Yemen and the rapidly evolving situation in the Middle East. Ambassador Balfakeeh briefed the Indonesian Deputy Foreign Minister on a series of recent terrorist attacks carried out by the Houthi militia, backed by the Iranian regime, using ballistic missiles and drones. The attacks targeted camps and units of the Yemeni Armed Forces in the governorates of Marib and Hadramout, as well as a displacement camp in Marib, in surprise terrorist attacks, followed by an attack on Al-Mokha Port in Taiz Governorate, marking a dangerous escalation that targeted a vital civilian and economic facility. He explained that the targeting of Al-Mokha Port comes as part of a systematic approach pursued by the Houthi militia to target ports, vital facilities, infrastructure, and economic sectors, disrupt commercial activity, and cut off essential lifelines and supplies to millions of Yemenis, further exacerbating their humanitarian suffering. The Ambassador affirmed that this escalation constitutes a war against the state, society, and national economy, and reflects its connection to an Iranian-backed project aimed at keeping Yemen trapped in a cycle of chaos and using its territory, ports, and maritime routes to threaten regional and international security, as well as freedom of navigation and trade in the Red Sea and Bab Al-Mandab. He stressed the importance of the international community assuming its responsibilities and moving beyond statements of condemnation and concern toward taking practical and deterrent measures against the Houthi militia and its supporters. He also called for efforts to cut off its sources of funding and arms and to hold it accountable for targeting civilian facilities and ports and threatening international maritime navigation. The meeting also addressed the dynamics of the conflict in the region, prospects for its developments, and their implications for regional security and stability. The two sides further underscored the importance of continued consultation and coordination between the two friendly countries on issues of common interest.
