Bandung Mayor and Ambassador Salem Balfakeeh Discuss Developments in Yemen and Strengthening Cooperation

Yemen’s Ambassador to Indonesia, His Excellency Ambassador Salem Ahmed Balfakeeh, met on Friday, August 7, 2026, with Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan to discuss developments in Yemen and ways to strengthen cooperation in the educational, economic, trade, and cultural fields. Ambassador Balfakeeh briefed the Mayor on the latest developments in Yemen, including the recent terrorist attack carried out by the Houthi militias against a number of Armed Forces camps and military units in the governorates of Marib and Hadramout using ballistic missiles and drones. He highlighted the threat this poses to security and stability and its undermining of efforts aimed at achieving peace. The two sides also discussed opportunities to develop educational and academic cooperation, enhance trade exchange, and benefit from cooperation in the field of halal product assurance, as well as facilitate communication between businesspeople. They further explored ways to strengthen cultural and youth exchanges and support the participation of Yemeni students in youth events and programs. Ambassador Balfakeeh affirmed the depth of the historic relations between Yemen and Indonesia and the importance of translating these ties into practical areas of cooperation that serve their mutual interests. The Mayor of Bandung, for his part, expressed the city government’s readiness to strengthen cooperation and coordination with the Embassy in areas of common interest.
