Ambassador Balfakeeh Meets Speaker of Indonesia’s People’s Consultative Assembly

H.E. Ambassador Salem Ahmed Balfakeeh met on Wednesday, 9 September 2026, with H.E. Mr. Ahmad Muzani, Speaker of the People’s Consultative Assembly of the Republic of Indonesia (MPR RI), at the Assembly’s headquarters in Jakarta. During the meeting, the two sides discussed bilateral relations between the Republic of Yemen and the Republic of Indonesia and ways to strengthen and further develop them in a manner that serves the mutual interests of the two countries and their peoples. They also exchanged views on developments in Yemen and a number of regional and international issues of mutual interest. Ambassador Balfakeeh briefed H.E. Mr. Muzani on the latest developments in Yemen and the efforts undertaken by the Yemeni Government to achieve peace and restore security and stability. He highlighted the challenges arising from Houthi escalation and its repercussions for the security and stability of Yemen and the wider region, as well as the risks posed to regional security and international trade by threats to international navigation in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab. In this context, the Ambassador emphasized the importance of supporting the legitimate Yemeni Government and its efforts to protect citizens and state institutions, safeguard the sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity of the Republic of Yemen, and enhance security and stability, thereby contributing to creating the necessary conditions for a just and lasting peace. Both sides underscored the importance of continuing to strengthen channels of communication and cooperation between the two countries, with a view to further developing Yemeni-Indonesian relations and expanding areas of cooperation of mutual interest.
