Ambassador Balfakeeh Discusses with DPD RI Chairman Support for the Yemeni Government’s Efforts to Restore State Institutions, Achieve Security and Stability, and Safeguard International Navigation

H.E. Ambassador Salem Ahmed Balfakeeh met on Monday, 14 September 2026, with H.E. Sultan Baktiar Najamudin, Chairman of the Regional Representative Council of the Republic of Indonesia (DPD RI). During the meeting, the two sides discussed bilateral relations and ways to further strengthen and develop them. They also reviewed the latest developments in Yemen in light of the recent escalation by the terrorist Houthi militia and its repercussions for security and stability, as well as maritime navigation and international trade in the Red Sea, Bab al-Mandab Strait, and the Gulf of Aden. Ambassador Balfakeeh underscored the importance of supporting the Yemeni Government’s efforts to restore state institutions and reinforce its sovereignty, as well as its efforts to combat terrorism and arms smuggling. He also stressed the importance of strengthening the capabilities of the Yemeni Coast Guard to secure maritime routes, thereby contributing to regional security and the safety of international navigation and trade. The Ambassador further highlighted the importance of enhancing coordination and cooperation between Yemen and Indonesia in the political, security, and development fields, while building on the deep historical and people-to-people ties between the two countries in support of their mutual interests.
